It all started with Colin McRae once his name given to the rally games
produced by Codemasters. After five games on various platforms and
purely on the sport to have addressed the franchise was a broader way.
Colin McRae DiRT was born and this game contained several disciplines
within the off-road racing. Colin McRae DiRT 2 was a continuation of the
success story and now it's up to DIRT to 3 to uphold the honor, despite
the name Colin McRae is no longer connected.
Everyone
probably know that a few years back Colin McRae tragically killed in a
helicopter crash and the second part of DiRT, Codemasters name still
attached to the title. Now, one year or two further, Codemasters name
drop, but that does not mean that the legend is no longer present in the
game. Here and there you get some cars at specially in the spirit of
this driver, but hey, life goes on and thus the DiRT franchise and
fortunately this is at a very good way.
Codemasters DiRT did
to the first menu in a unique type of game to process and you got DiRT 2
as an interactive menu caravan. This principle is DiRT 3 thrown
overboard to make room for another innovative menu with helpful split
triangles to navigate back unread. Clearly and concisely. This consists
of the usual options, including free and multiplayer racing, which is
playable online and offline. Offline playable? Indeed, you can
split-screen racing together. This course and all courses in all
disciplines of the game is rich, so therefore it's okay. Most important
in this game is of course the Dirt tour.
DiRT The tour
consists of four seasons. These seasons are all divided into four
different events. These weather events are sponsored by various brands
such as Monster and DC. Each event can be a number of different races
and finish each discipline, almost always once. This is a good change
during the races and if you do not like a particular discipline, then
you can skip. By successfully completing races get points and you unlock
new races in the event. Once enough points earned in the event, then
you unlock a whole new event within the season.
It is,
therefore, earn points to get further into the game and if you collect
enough points, then you sooner or later to work in the following season
and this principle continues to repeat itself until you reach the last
season. Also keep the races for each event is different again, because
the game has six different disciplines. Of course the famous rally, but
Land Rush, Head2Head, Trial Blazer, Rallycross Gymkhana and the brand
new, but more about that later. As already stated, you need to finish
these races for points, which you more as you get higher end in a race.
In the beginning you have a race in an event but a race you have to
drive, but in later seasons, you get four tracks to ride quietly, before
you have completed a full race within an event. At first you seem to be
a quick game to go through, but trust us, you are calm one hour or
twelve or more with the single player and that's just a good number of
hours played. Partly because you always can try again later to be the
first to be a certain race, if that was not successful.
After
a substantial number of hours we thought playing slowly at the end, but
the game still appears to have a surprise. Each discipline there is in
fact also a "World Tour" and for convenience we rally here as an
example. There are several countries where you can race with DiRT and 3
per country are a number of tracks. In World Tour you every country and
you must turn drive each track. The same concept is also repeated for
other disciplines, so you quickly one hour and nine to ten are working
on the four seasons, you can quiet some hours to count on the World Tour
option within the game.
Now the various disciplines
cited above mainly more of the same. Indeed, there is little new to be
seen relative to the second part, except that the tracks are all brand
new. It is completely new to DiRT Gymkhana and maybe it is like one of
the coolest new features in years for the franchise. Gymkhana is common
in this game and is again divided into several parts. This varies from
spectacular racing to mini games that are particularly fun to do.
Once you unlock Gymkhana during the first season you get first quietly
explained the various parts. Here issues such as drifting, donuts make
ramps take spiders and more discussed. Later in the game you look back
here from different parts. So you may have a trail within a certain time
and all robots must travel down to drive, but beware of the flats, as
they must remain whole. Another part is that you have to drive a
predetermined route and during your trip to perform various tasks, such
as drifting, DiRT 3 blocks away and destroy everything. Course within a
set time.
The various mini-games that are a very
welcome addition to the gameplay, because it's fun to do and it takes
care of the natural variety. Besides these minigames, you also get
regularly presented Gymkhana races where you have many points within a
half minutes to achieve. How do you do that, that's entirely up to you.
We should say that in the first instance seems impossible, but with a
little practice goes a long end. More fun racing around freely is
Battersea.
Battersea has a location in London, where many
buildings are empty, and containers and more. Every time you complete a
season in the Dirt Tour will get a complete new section of Battersea
available to you, until you finally the entire field at your disposal.
You can Gymkhana racing to your heart, because there is no time limit
and to keep it interesting, there are eighty different tasks you can
accomplish. This is pure entertainment, because you can at anytime stop
one day and continue later. An ideal alternative if you briefly finished
the regular races in the Tour DiRT.
Gymkhana is large
presence in this game and Codemasters knows this perfectly integrated
into the overall design of the single player. It feels good, it's fun
and most varied. Once you've mastered the controls, then you spend two
hours at Battersea quietly, without you noticing. Talked about the
controls, which is good as ever. DiRT 3 feels right at the first race
very well, but good, very much different we did not expect the racing
experts at Codemasters.
Add to that the game now has more
weather effects including snow. This can be tricky even in close races
because the snow flies past your ears and the snow is among the more and
you must take into account other fellow racers. In short, even more
than the game is at times anyway. Naturally the sun, rain and more
weather effects are not, so each race, no matter now often rode a job in
the game yet again can be different.
We can therefore
say that Codemasters delivers a fantastic racer. The game is varied
enough, has a long play and graphically the game looks strong. The only
thing a little less is that the textures of the characters stand around
your car at the start of the year are zero. Strange when you see that
the rest of the game graphically in tip-top order. It's not much trouble
to the people of a little good with textures? Furthermore, we also
annoyed at the loading times and mandatory animations. The loading times
will return after each race and after one hour that you play pretty Sat
The mandatory animations come just before a race and over again. The
camera turns quietly to the car and after some time will display a menu,
whereupon you can press start button. We understand that Codemasters
slick as a possible game would deliver, but after a race or sixty do and
we know that we are repeatedly seconds to wait, while we want to race
when we have to have a loading screen staring. These are small things,
but ultimately counterproductive work, downside is that we have a superb
game for our choice and we will therefore conclude this review with the
statement that DiRT 3 clearly the best in the franchise until now.
Positives
- Variety.
- Long play.
- Battersea.
- Audiovisual neat.
negatives
- Some low-quality textures.
- Loading times and mandatory animations.
