How Bad Will the Shellacking Be?

 

The Democratic Party is, historically, in trouble in the midterm elections next week. Not only does the party in power nearly always lose seats in the midterms, but usually not even a popular president can save them. An unpopular president will nearly always cause his party to be trounced. Let’s go back to the 1930s and see what generally occurs.

The Great Depression hit the country in 1929. Republican Herbert Hoover was the president that year, and even though he really had nothing to do with the coming of the Depression (his response to it was horrific, though), still, he was president, so the Republicans suffered. In 1930, they lost 52 seats in the House and eight in the Senate. Since Hoover’s response to the Depression only made it worse, not only did he lose the presidency to Franklin Roosevelt in 1932 by a huge margin, but the Republicans lost 101 more seats in the House and 12 more in the Senate. After that, except for 1946 and 1952, the Democrats controlled the House of Representatives consistently until 1994.

FDR was probably the greatest politician in American history. That isn’t intended to be a compliment. My point here is, he was a masterful coalition-builder, able to buy votes more successfully than any other politician in our country’s history. His policies, domestic and foreign, were, by and large, disastrous (ask Eastern Europe), but he was the consummate “Teflon” president and won the presidency four times. The strain finally killed him in 1945.

For all the fake history that teaches Roosevelt “got us out of the Depressio,n” this is simply not true, and the country knew it at the time. In 1937, unemployment, which had never been less than 12 percent under Roosevelt, dipped back to 20 percent, and in the 1938 midterms, the Democrats lost 81 seats in the House and seven in the Senate. In 1942, after FDR had won an unprecedented third term as president, the Democrats still lost 46 seats in the House and nine in the Senate. After FDR’s death, Harry Truman didn’t do any better: -45 in the House in 1946, and -12 in the Senate (the Dems lost 29 and six in 1950). Even the popular Dwight Eisenhower couldn’t stop this kind of bleeding. While he lost “only” 18 House seats and one Senate position in 1954, it was 48 and 13 in 1958. Lyndon Johnson and the Democrats lost 47 House seats in 1966. Gerald Ford and the Republicans lost 48 in 1974 after Watergate and the Nixon resignation (it’s amazing it wasn’t worse). And on and on it goes.

Since 1938, there have only been two instances when the party who occupied the presidency gained seats in the House of Representatives. (It has happened five times in the Senate, including 2018 when the Republicans under Trump gained two Senate seats. We always must remember, in Senate races, how many seats from each party need defending.) In 1998, the Democrats under Bill Clinton gained five House seats, though the Senate composition remained the same. Interestingly, this was after the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke. In 1994, Clinton lost 52 Democrats in the House, giving the Republicans their first majority in that body in 42 years. Democrats lost eight seats in the Senate that year.

The only other time since 1938 the sitting president’s party gained House seats was 2002 under George W. Bush. The Republicans gained eight House seats and two Senate seats that year (Bush lost 30 and 6 respectively in 2006). Barack Obama lost 63 and six in 2010 and won re-election in 2012. In 2014, the Democrats lost 13 and nine. Trump lost 40 House seats in 2018, but, as noted, gained two Senate seats. The party in power, regardless of the popularity (or lack thereof) of the sitting president, nearly always loses seats. Even Ronald Reagan, in two midterm elections, lost 31 seats in the House and seven in the Senate. The fickle voters.

What does all this mean? Well, maybe a few things.

1. Absolutely nothing. What happened in the past can give us some hints (and hopes) for what might happen in the future. But history does not control the future and can’t tell us what will happen. Nobody, not even Mr. History, knows what will come to pass on November 8, 2022.

2. But there are those suggestive “hints.” IF, a mighty big IF, the “trend” of history continues next week, the Democrats will lose. How big will they lose? That is impossible to determine exactly. Joe Biden isn’t very well-liked outside of Washington, D.C., New York, and California, and that always signals losses for his party. But it can’t tell us how many. If any.

3. Don’t forget there’s always the possibility of funny business in the election. Could voter fraud sway a few seats? Probably, but not enough to save the House for Democrats. Several Senate races are tight and still could go either way.

History favors the Republicans, but history is what happened, not what WILL happen.

High IQs and Bad People

 

Harvard University has a Kennedy School of Government whose primary intent is to prepare people for some aspect of public (government) service. I suspect everybody who attends that school has a high IQ, and there is nothing wrong with that. But having a high IQ and lots of training doesn’t necessarily make you smart. And more importantly, it doesn’t make you a good person or better than other people, though liberals seem to think it does.

George Washington was a farmer who also served as a military and political leader.  He didn’t go to Harvard, but he was pretty good at guiding men, and not a bad President.  Of course, we live in a far more complex world now, and I’m not opposed to people studying public policy, international relations, foreign languages, etc. etc. to better prepare themselves for serving mankind.  But unless a school teaches the fundamentals of what American students and society really need—the difference between right and wrong, how to save money, how to be truly color blind, the value of human life, that they work for the United States of America, not Mexico, Venezuela, or Communist China—then all their expensive “public policy” education is self-aggrandizement and isn’t worth much to the people they are supposed to serve.   Knowledge is not virtue.  Knowledge is in the head, virtue comes out of the heart.  Good leaders don’t need to have high IQs; they need to be good people.   The most important elements, by far, of the training needed to do government (or any other kind of) service is moral training--virtue.  Yes, we need computer specialists, language specialists, etc. etc.  But regardless of how much “specialist” preparation a person has, if that person is inwardly rotten, they are going to do a rotten job for the country, and the people will have difficulty overcoming it.   Joe Biden is a horrible President not just because he isn’t very intelligent and has become senile.  He is a horrible President because he is a rotten person, without a scintilla of moral virtue inside him.  He cares first, foremost, and only about himself and retaining the power and authority over others of which he is totally unworthy as a human being.  In other words, he is the exact OPPOSITE of the quality of person who should do his job.  Hence, his utter, and lifelong, failure.   Democrats and liberals are attracted to government because government has power over others and can certainly sway a country in one direction or another.  They believe, maybe even sincerely, that they know better how to run your life than you do (they went to “Hahvahd”, remember?).  Thus, if we will give them the power and opportunity they believe they deserve to have, and if the opposition is suppressed, then they possess the intelligence, foresight, and ability to truly create a paradise on earth.  Such a “paradise” would be socialism because individual freedom is the exact opposite of that system, of their belief in their wisdom to direct and control mankind.   The word “virtue” is probably not even in their dictionary.  They are omniscient, and so brilliant they can even control nature.  Now, some of them probably know better than to believe all this baloney and are only in it for personal glory.  But I have no doubt the idealists exist, in huge numbers.

This “vision” of theirs is why they hate Donald Trump (and you) so much. He, more than anyone else, is perceived to be standing in their way, and he represents the exact opposite of everything they believe in. They are God, here to give the rest of us heaven on earth. Trump is the devil, the total reverse of everything they hold dear and believe to be holy, just, righteous, and good. He MUST be destroyed, by any means possible fair or foul, and after he is, the next bogeyman (DeSatan?) will have to be obliterated as well. It is a civil war for power to them, and will only end with their total dominance, and the total destruction of their enemies. They are right and you are wrong. It is that simple. It is Hitlerism to a “T”.

And you are not only wrong, you are evil and deserve only to be submissive, or eradicated from the face of the earth.

Of course, some of the above (not all) is exactly what conservatives believe about them.  The difference is, we know that human imperfections—and they are legion—can never and will never produce a Golden Age of Perfection on earth.  Heaven is on the other side of the grave, not here.  Liberals don’t believe in a spiritual heaven, so it must be created on earth—by them.  But, to conservatives, the best that can be hoped for is to diligently train people in virtuous, humble selflessness.  Societies must try to produce the most excellent people possible.  This will limit the need for, and dangers of, government tyranny.  The warnings are numerous:   “Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely.” (Lord Acton)   “Power gradually extirpates for [eliminates from] the mind every humane and gentle virtue.” (Edmund Burke)   “The truth is that all men having power ought to be mistrusted.” (James Madison)   To the men who founded America, no one is born with a right to rule others.  This was the American Revolution.  It is the antithesis of modern Leftism, and why they hate America’s Founders so profoundly.  The Left believes they DO deserve to rule others because of their superior intellectual and moral status.  (They went to Harvard….)  And woe to the hundreds of millions of peasants who have, continue to, and will continue to stand in the way until the Left has the absolute supremacy it craves.   They are only trying to give you heaven on earth, you rednecks.  And they will kill you if you don’t want it.

Job termination is a conspiracy.

 I was in communism in my childhood. In Boy Scouts, they had Axel honneth and Jurgen Habermas in boy scouts. I wasn’t a Missouri Lutheran, I was in the ELCA my entire life with woman pastors. Critical Theory was in Catholic Churches too. So this David Speath was stealing people’s jobs at Laptop Chips through his career exploration program he earned in the military. I found out that three Speaths working at Laptop Chips and David Speath left Laptop Chips a year later. There was also this conspiracy around Syd Berret. My manager told me that Aaron operates the warehouse like a prison, and that other manager has animal logins from Pink Floyd Animals album. The employees were wearing Vietnam flag, Dragon Ball Z and Dark Side of the Moon T-shirts. I took a ASVAB test in River Falls and, I had a 4 year college degree. The employer backstabber me after I talked to him after work every week chitchating by laying me off anyways. Communication problems is bullcrap. I was working constantly at laptop chips. The employees would go to Subway, and return when I started lunch break. Employees didn’t eat together. Very long So I was worried about 5 year plans in 2019 in Wisconsin, before everybody in Wisconsin wanted Tony Evers and Joe Biden, right? Before that, Wisconsin wanted Bernie Sanders. I send my resume online at other companies, and they didn’t want me and I had 8 jobs in my life. The internships don’t keep me for 3 months. I worked at a software company and hospital. The hospital said they didn’t have spare money for another employee, because they screwed up their project. The software company, I finished everything and was replaced by a military, because of nepotism. The software company wasn't ethical, they hire Indian, and Chicom programmers. This serviceman was related to the CEO of the software company. Then I find recruiters who cold call while in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and they pick other people mainly because they wanted me to work on the coasts or Texas.

‘Save Our Democracy’ Is the New ‘Russia Collusion’

 

At this point, it would save everyone time if Democrats could simply point to a policy agenda item that isn’t going to save democracy — if such a thing exists.

If Republicans vote, they are killing democracy. If they don’t vote, they are killing democracy. The only way to “save democracy,” writes The Washington Post’s Max Boot, is to empower one-party rule — a position that probably sounds counterintuitive to anyone with a middle-school education. “Now you need to vote to save democracy once again,” contends President Joe Biden, or we will lose our “fundamental rights and freedoms like the right to choose, the right to privacy, the right to vote — our very democracy.”

Chilling stuff. But it doesn’t end there. You will remember that by failing to “reform” the filibuster, which would entail authorizing the thinnest of fleeting majorities to shove through massive generational “reforms” without any national consensus or debate, we are also killing democracy. This has been the position not only of left-wing pundits and The New York Times editorial board but also senators tasked with defending their institution. I wonder if they will support this democracy-saving fix next session, as well? 

Then again, if we don’t nationalize the economy to avert a climate crisis, we are also killing democracy. “We’ve got to save democracy to save our species,” Jamie Raskin explains. And if we don’t empty the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to temporarily keep gas prices low to help Democrats win in 2022, we are killing democracy. “We find ourselves in a situation where keeping gas prices low is key to preserving and strengthening the future of our democracy,” MSNBC’s Chris Hayes says.

We must allow the president to unilaterally create trillion-dollar spending bills and break existing private sector contracts by fiat. For democracy. We must pack the court to “save democracy.” We must create a Ministry of Truth to help with “strengthening democratic institutions.” We must vote for a Pennsylvania candidate who can’t cobble two consecutive coherent sentences together because the “fate of our democracy” is at stake, says our former President Barack Obama.

If the Supreme Court empowers the public to vote on an issue like abortion, unmentioned anywhere in the Constitution, it is “degrading” our “democracy.” If the court protects rights that are explicitly mentioned in the Constitution from the vagaries of the political process, it is also undermining democracy — which is convenient. 

The only way to save democracy is to allow one party (guess which one?) to federalize elections so they can compel states to count mail-in votes that arrive 10 days late, legalize ballot harvesting, force the overturning of dozens of existing voter ID laws, allow felons to vote, create onerous burdens to chill speech, and empower bureaucrats to redraw congressional districts. Otherwise … well, you know. 

You’ll remember last year when left-wingers were arguing that Mike Pence’s support for basic voting ID — backed by around 80% of the American public and implemented in virtually every free nation — heralded a “permanent authoritarian rule.” The president called Georgia’s moderate voter law “odious,” “pernicious,” “vicious,” “unconscionable,” a “subversion” and “suppression,” the “21st-century Jim Crow” and the sure sign of an emerging “autocracy.” In 2022, early voting in Georgia is “shattering records.”

Then, of course, there are the nefarious “election deniers.” You know, “The Big Lie”? If Democrats believed “election denial” was an existential threat to American “democracy,” they probably wouldn’t be perennially engaging in it. The American left hasn’t accepted the legitimacy of a Republican presidential election win since 1988. Democrats “save democracy” by pumping millions into the primary campaigns of “election-denying” Republicans to try and set up a more favorable general election.

Just this week, Hillary Clinton, one of numerous prominent Democrats who wouldn’t accept the legitimacy of the 2016 presidential election, claimed that “right-wing extremists already have a plan to steal the next presidential election.” This is the kind of preemptive election denialism Democrats have been engaged in for nearly two decades. Democrats don’t lose elections; they are victims of gerrymandering or voter suppression or “structural” problems or too much free speech or Fox News or Russian gremlins.

Beginning in 2016, the Democratic Party descended into the politics of hysterics. It began with a mind-bending tale of a second-rate power stealing our democracy with a few Facebook ads and a Manchurian candidate. The collective psychotic break that followed was bolstered by unethical political media and a corrupt investigation into the president that was predicated on an opposition-research document filled with fiction, distortions, and Russian disinformation. Democrats wanted to cripple the president. They succeeded.

Since then, a large swath of the left has become so reliant on infantile fearmongering that they seem incapable of debating any issues or dealing with the reality of an opposition party. When they’re not slandering political opponents as (semi-) fascists or racists or misogynists or homophobes or transphobes or death cultists, they’re engaging in cloistered pseudointellectual debate-club discussions on “saving democracy.” 

Democrats, who have spent years delegitimizing the Supreme Court and rule of law, undermining legislative norms, cheering on unprecedented and blatant executive abuses, and using the DOJ to target their political enemies, among other “democracy”-destroying behaviors, do not occupy any high moral ground. And while “democracy” was once just a transparently silly euphemism for “stuff we want,” it has since evolved into a rhetorical device that denotes a decisively illiberal mindset.

Disinformation Is Democracy

 

Paul Pelosi’s bizarre battle with a hammer-wielding, tighty-whitey bedecked foe, boasting a tawdry history befitting any ANTIFA clown, provides yet another insight into the degeneracy of the legacy media and of every progressive troll circling the septic hole that is American liberalism.

Musk has waded hip deep into the frothing spume that is Twitter and dared to contradict the ever evolving narrative about Paul Pelosi and his nocturnal visitor who he called “David,” during the 911 call, and described the degenerate as a “friend.” 

It may be a far more common occurrence than I imagine, but I’ve never been in the position of having a deranged “friend” break into my home, stripped to his sagging Hanes, to prance through my halls flailing a hammer. Rest assured, my response to a farce on that order would be a volley of 12 gauge slugs. Of course, Paul, being the dutiful progressive, eschewed the use of the immoral tool — a firearm. Instead, he opted to grapple with his nearly nude foe and received a fractured skull for his trouble. 

Reality, having an ironic sense of humor, has provided another cautionary tale for those who preach impotence. Violence can and does come from any quarter and most often unexpectedly. Criminals will always avail themselves of weapons and only a fool cedes the advantage to the evildoer. 

And, even the Speaker’s consort, ensconced in his lavish home isn’t safe from his perverse associations though guarded by privilege, wealth, and power. Paul’s wife is third in line to the presidency, so what does that mean for the rest of us when he can be mauled by a fleshy assailant — the police watching at the door? They don’t want your guns because you’re a threat to other citizens. They want your guns because they’re tools of power, and they cannot abide power that does not emanate from them. The real objective of gun-grabbing democrats is a monopoly on violence — not its eradication. 

In any case, for the Pelosis, when it rains it pours. Just a few weeks ago, Paul was arrested and charged with a DUI — a crime of some moral turpitude. This latest episode looks more like a crack in the facade that is the Pelosi household. Corrupt people are often perverse and the Pelosi’s have made tens of millions trading equities on information not widely available to the general public. For most people, this would be classified and prosecuted as insider trading. The Pelosis are typical of progressives who lie and grift to fill their treasure chests, legislating an iron-fisted statism that ensures their own dynasty. 

In the midst of all this Pelosi debauchery, Musk issued a tweet that linked to a blog post about the break-in that was ridiculed as false. Musk deleted the tweet, and, so what? The statist media machine fired the boilers and flew into full outrage, sputtering about the end of democracy — because, “disinformation.” 

As if “disinformation” were the real threat compared to the house of ill repute that is the Pelosi’s residence, and the corrosive influence of the Pelosi ethic. The Pelosis, and every Democrat like them, are existential threats to our democracy. Disinformation is simply a byproduct of the free marketplace of ideas, which forms the bedrock of a democratic republic. The demonization of disinformation is actually an infantilization of the American citizenry. It’s become a euphemism for any thought that threatens the Democrat narrative. 

False information is the purview of statist Democrats, and disinformation is simply a mechanism of control, categorizing competing ideas as verboten. Free speech demands that the government and its surrogates abstain from any action that limits its expression. The First Amendment is explicit on this point. Free speech is so important that even speech that is antithetical to the principles of our democratic republic should be given free reign in public discourse. The people should be the ultimate arbiters of speech, and any superseding government, corporation, or media that usurps this power is de facto fascist. 

Totalitarians censor. Those who lust for power censor. Those who shriek about disinformation are attempting to abridge your civil rights and should be met with the full force of public ire and sanction of the law.

Any media outlet, commentator, talking head, politician, tech oligarch, or government apparatchik that militates about “disinformation” should be viewed with great suspicion. It is almost a certainty they are trying to “hide the nails and wood.” Public discourse is critically important, especially as we near the mid-term election cycle. The forces of oppression are frantically working to suppress information and undermine the efficacy of the franchise. 

It’s important to know what the Pelosi’s are really up to, and who they really are. We allow deceivers to lead our country to our own peril. The lie is always on the side of evil, and evil ever seeks to expand its kingdom of slaves. Look around and vote for the truth-tellers. In my opinion, though Republicans are far from ideal, they’re far better than any Democrat who has aligned with the party of the lie.
